Activon Tube is a tube containing pure Manuka honey, which has healing and antibacterial properties. Thanks to these properties, Manuka honey helps to prevent odour in case of wound infection and maintains the right level of moisture within the wound, which significantly speeds up the wound healing process. In 2006, the European Wound Healing Association (EWMA) recognised Manuka honey as one of the most important antiseptics for wound treatment.

Thanks to its physicochemical properties, honey can serve as a dressing, creating a protective barrier for the wound and providing a moist environment, which helps the wound healing process. Manuka honey has additional properties that accelerate the removal of dead tissue and stimulate granulation and granulation processes due to its content of enzymes, hydrogen peroxide and antioxidants. In addition, honey contains many mineral salts and vitamins such as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, manganese, zinc, vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, folic acid, pantothenic acid and biotin. Changing a dressing covered with honey is painless and studies show its positive effect on wound healing processes.

Osmotic effect

Thanks to its high osmolarity, honey has an osmotic effect that stimulates the diffusion of fluids from the tissues and prevents maceration of the wound edges, while creating a sufficiently moist environment to promote wound healing. In addition, honey acts as a natural microneedling, eliminating bacterial toxins and preventing the accumulation of active substances such as cytokines and proteinases in the tissues

Odour reducer

Using dressings with Manuka honey can significantly reduce wound odour. Bacteria present in the wound that metabolise amino acids and peptides produce unpleasant smelling mercaptans and amines, but when Manuka honey is present in the wound, the bacteria metabolise the simple sugars in the honey to form odourless lactic acid, effectively reducing odour.

Faster wound healing

Rich in water-soluble antioxidants, honey is beneficial in stimulating granulation and epithelialization processes.

Directions for use

Apply directly to the wound or use in combination with Activon Tulle or Algivon to increase the honey concentration. The wound can be covered with an additional dressing as desired, using for example an absorbent compress or polyurethane film. By reversing the cap it is possible to plug the tube for the duration of the dressing.
